Nitrogen generator is a special equipment for nitrogen gas production from compressed air. In some cases terms “air separation nitrogen unit” or “nitrogen plant” are used.
Industrial nitrogen gas generators of Parker brand are represented by NitroSource and Midigas types. They use Pressure Swing Adsorption as an operation technology (PSA). They are often called as “adsorption nitrogen generator”.
Membrane modules are used for the same purposes. They used hollow fiber gas separation membranes made from polyphenylene oxide (PPO). Nitrogen generator based on the membrane modules is commonly called “membrane nitrogen generator”.

Parker membrane modules provide an optimal solution noted for minimum pressure losses and maximum life duration (resistance to impurities) due to a large membrane diameter, absence of shrinkage upon fiber ageing.
Parker membranes are made from polyphenylene oxide (PPO), which is a polymer.
Membrane technology uses bundles of hollow fibers installed in the tube. Nitrogen is selectively separated from nitrogen on the fiber walls (retentate or superconcentrate) and oxygen-saturated air (filtrate and permeate).
Membrane modules of Fluxx type (HiFluxx® and SmartFluxx®) are designed to produce nitrogen with purity from 95% to 99.9%.
Membrane modules of Oxy types (EnOxy®) are designed to produce oxygen-saturated air, in concentration from 28% to 40%.
